Time management was the biggest challenge experienced by college students during the fall 2016 term, with mental health (e.g. stress, anxiety) finishing as a close second. Freshmen were more likely to report time management as one of their biggest challenges, while seniors were more likely to report mental health (e.g. stress, anxiety).
While 50% of students stated time management was a challenge, these students tended to be more satisfied with their institution and less likely to be considering transferring or dropping out. On the other hand, students who reported mental health as one of their biggest challenges were less motivated, more likely to feel they don’t belong, and less satisfied with their institution.
Corresponding to their challenges, the main things students wish they knew before starting school was how to manage time and how difficult school would be.
